Etsy product research: finding products that sell, with data
Last updated:
In short
Etsy product research means finding the products in a niche that buyers genuinely care about, and whose popularity is growing. Listimize does this with two tools: the Niche Winner Finder lists the strongest products in your niche for a search, while the Product Finder observes products daily and highlights rising ones with a Trend Score based on favorite growth.
How do you find products that sell on Etsy?
Instead of guessing, answer two questions with data: What are people in this niche interested in? and Which products are gaining interest right now? The first shows that demand exists; the second shows that the timing is right. Then look at how competitors sell and when the season arrives.
What does the Niche Winner Finder do?
When you enter a search term (e.g. "minimalist wall art"), it ranks products in your niche using Listimize's sales, favorites and trend signals, and marks the ones performing strongly right now as WINNER. It shows price (USD), favorites, listing age and shop details, and you can filter by digital or physical.
Important: WINNER is Listimize's own signal; it isn't an official Etsy badge (Bestseller, Etsy's Pick).
What are the Product Finder and the Trend Score?
The Product Finder regularly observes a large pool of Etsy products and measures how interest in each one changes over time. The Trend Score isn't based on a single snapshot but on these observations (e.g. daily favorite growth, accelerating interest, listing age). For each product you see:
- Trend Score: how strongly it's rising compared with similar products.
- Trend Status: a label such as "Strong Trend", "Gaining Momentum" or "Newly Rising".
- Daily Favorites: how many favorites the product gains per day on average (hidden when unknown, never counted as zero).
- Why it's rising: e.g. "gaining favorites faster than similar products", "standing out as a product from a small shop".
How do you research competitors and seasons?
- Competitor Listing Analysis: breaks down an Etsy listing's SEO, strengths and opportunities for improvement.
- Competitor Shop Analysis & Tracking: shows successful shops' products, sales/favorite signals and quality score; you can add them to your tracking list.
- Seasonal Calendar: shows upcoming sales seasons, their keywords and best-fit product types ahead of time.
A sample product research workflow
- Search your niche in the Niche Winner Finder; note what the WINNER products have in common (style, format, price range).
- In the Product Finder, look for products in the same category with a high Trend Score and a "Gaining Momentum" status.
- Validate your idea with the Keyword Finder: is it searched for, and how strong is the competition?
- Review a few competing listings with Competitor Listing Analysis and decide how you'll stand out.
- Check the timing in the Seasonal Calendar and get the product ready before the season starts.
Limitations
Favorites and interest signals aren't sales themselves; per-listing sales aren't public in the Etsy API, and Listimize never presents shop sales as listing sales. The Trend Score becomes more reliable the longer a product is observed. Rather than copying a product, using demand signals to develop your own original product fits both Etsy's rules and long-term sales better.
