Etsy fees explained

These are the fees Etsy deducts on a typical sale through Etsy Payments. Rates come from Etsy's official policies and are the same ones the calculator uses.

How much does Etsy take from a sale?

On a typical sale, Etsy deducts a $0.20 USD listing fee for the item sold, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping and gift wrap, and a payment processing fee that depends on your bank account's country (3% + $0.25 USD in the US). Some countries add a regulatory operating fee, and orders from Offsite Ads carry an extra 15% or 12% fee. For example, a US seller sells a $25.00 item and charges $5.00 for shipping:

Order total$30.00
Listing fee−$0.20
Transaction fee6.5%−$1.95
Payment processing3% + $0.25−$1.15
Net payout$26.70
Your costs (materials, packaging, shipping)−$13.50
Profit (Margin 44%)$13.20
Break-even item price$10.41

On a $30.00 order, Etsy fees total $3.30 (11% of the order), so the payout is $26.70.

Etsy pricing calculator: price for a target profit or margin

Etsy's percentage fees grow with your price, so adding the profit you want to your costs isn't enough. Enter your costs and a target profit or margin under "Price for a target" and the calculator works backward to the lowest item price that reaches it after every Etsy fee. With the same US order and costs as above:

To make $15.00 profit, price the item at $26.99. On that $31.99 order Etsy's fees come to $3.49 and your costs to $13.50, which leaves $15.00 profit (a 46.9% margin).

Margin is profit divided by the order total, including the shipping you charge.

Net payout, profit and break-even price

Payout is not profit

Your payout is what's left after Etsy's fees. Profit is the payout minus your own costs: materials, labor, packaging, the shipping you pay and any advertising. A sale can have a healthy payout and still lose money.

Why a flat markup doesn't work

Percentage fees grow with your price while fixed fees don't, so adding the same markup to every product misprices cheap and expensive items differently. The break-even and target price figures solve this with the same fee model as the calculator.

How much profit should you make?

There's no universal number. Margins depend on your category, production time and how you value your work. Model your own costs, decide what profit makes the work worthwhile, and check that the price still fits what buyers pay for similar items.

Etsy payment processing fees by country

Payment processing fees depend on where your bank account is. The calculator supports these 61 countries; for any other country you can enter your own rates.

Etsy fees in the UK

If your bank account is in the United Kingdom, Etsy charges 4% + 0.20 GBP for payment processing and a 0.48% regulatory operating fee, on top of the 6.5% transaction fee and the $0.20 USD listing fee. Etsy may also add VAT to its seller fees depending on your tax status; if it does, enter your rate under "Taxes, currency and custom rates" in the calculator.

Frequently asked questions

What is Etsy's transaction fee?

Etsy charges a 6.5% transaction fee on the price you display for each listing plus the amount you charge for shipping and gift wrap. Personalization fees are added to the item price. For US sellers it doesn't apply to sales tax.

How much is the Etsy listing fee?

$0.20 USD per listing. A listing lasts four months and can auto-renew for another $0.20 USD. If you sell several quantities of one listing, Etsy charges $0.20 USD for each additional quantity sold.

Do Etsy fees vary by country?

Yes. Payment processing fees depend on your bank account's country, a regulatory operating fee applies in some countries (Canada, France, Hungary, India, Italy, Spain, Türkiye, United Kingdom, Vietnam), and VAT may be added to seller fees depending on your location and tax status.

Does the Etsy fee calculator include Offsite Ads?

Only if you say the order came from an Offsite Ad. The fee is 15% for shops under $10,000 USD in sales over the past 365 days and 12% for shops that have reached it, capped at $100 USD per order.

Are Payoneer or bank withdrawal fees included?

No. The calculator covers Etsy's own fees. Deposit fees and withdrawal fees charged by Payoneer or your bank are separate and depend on your account.
